Club Championships Report - Summer 2024

Even though the weather wasn’t playing ball on the day, the Club Championships finished on a high with great performances all day from the players.
The luxury of the indoor facility at Caesarean Tennis Club was used to full effect, which gave all the finalists perfect conditions to compete.
Clare Clark, who was in three finals on the day, started off with the Ladies doubles with her partner Sonia Smith, competing against the number one seeded pair of Natasha Forrest and Evan Hurst.
It was an extremely competitive match, with Forrest and Hurst coming through the tough task to prevail in two sets.
There was no rest for Clark, as she was back on court again in the Mixed doubles final with Rob Hannah, where she would again meet Forrest, this time with her partner Scott Weaver.
This was the match of the day, with Clark and Hannah really giving the top seeded pair a real fright.
After a tight first set going to Forrest and Weaver, Clark and Hannah fought back and aggressively won the second set 7-5 taking the match to a tie-break third set decider.
The level of tennis was great to watch and the crowd were really getting into the deciding set, which Forrest and Weaver won 10-4 to claim the trophy.
The Junior finals were taking place at the same time and the Boys 12-and-under singles was a tight match, with Rory Le Masurier coming through in two tight, fast-paced sets against Moley Carnegie Bellow.
No rest for Bellow, as he also had a second final against Sam Fleming in the Boys 14-and-under singles, with Fleming breaking through the champion in two sets.
In the Boys 18-and-under singles, Max Forbes fought hard to beat the unseeded Sam Carnegie. Forbes’ clean ball striking made the difference, as he came through in straight sets.
The Girls 14-and-under singles was won by Lucia De Cordova against Chloe Consett and the Girls 18-and-under singles was won by Jasmine Derrien against Anais McDermott in two close sets.
Having won the mixed-doubles title already, Weaver was also still in action as he teamed up with Louis Keenan to play in the Men’s doubles final against Lee Ingram and Tomas Nadassky.
Ingram and Nadassky pushed the number-one seeds all the way, but they were too strong and Weaver lifted his second trophy, coming through in two sets.
The Ladies singles final was between Eva Hurst and Clark, Clark’s third match of the day. Hurst’s strong serve and forehand took control of the first set as she claimed it fairly comfortably, 6-2. It looked like the final was over pretty quickly when Hurst moved 5-2 up in the second set as well. However, a spirited fightback from Clark brought the score back to 5-4 and earned some real respect.
Hurst did manage to get over the line, winning 6-4 to clinch a well-deserved singles trophy to back up her doubles title.
The final match of the day was between Luca Paciello and Keenan.
Keenan is the local player who won the Easter Open in April and Paciello came to the Island last year and has competed in pro ITF Future events in Italy.
Paciello’s quality baseline game took early control of the match, breaking Keenan’s serve early on and taking a 3-1 lead.
It felt like Paciello would take the first set, but Keenan started to play more aggressively, especially his backhand up the line which caused real problems.
Keenan won the first set 6-3 and this momentum continued in the second, where his impressive serving won him the second set 6-2.
Caesarean Tennis Club would like to thank everyone who entered and competed and to Hapi for kindly sponsoring the event and donating some great raffle prizes.
