The club is pleased to host two Grade 3 Open and Junior LTA Tournaments a year, which are kindly sponsored by BNP Paribas. These week-long tournaments run at Easter and Summer and are open to players from the Channel Islands and the UK of all ages and all levels.
BNP Paribas Caesarean Grade 3 Open and Junior Summer Tournament Report 2023
We were treated to another great tournament week with exciting, hard fought matches played across all draws, from 9U to Open. It was great to see the club house full and great atmosphere throughout the week. The standout performance of the tournament was ex-Caesarean and now Haverfordwest LTC member, Jeremy Cross, who completed a clean sweep across the mens’ Open Singles, Doubles and 35+ Singles. Despite the record-breaking heatwaves across Southern Europe, Jersey was treated to torrential rain and storm-force winds during our week-long summer tournament. We were grateful to have our new artificial clay courts in action for the tournament which allowed play to continue in all but the worst weather conditions. Thanks to our tournament referee and court supervisor – Donna and Graham Budd, for keeping the matches on track. We were delighted to welcome sponsors BNP Paribas for the finals days and trophy presentations and thank them for their ongoing, generous support of the Caesarean Tennis Club. A big thank you to all the members who contributed to the preparation and running of the tournament, in particular Karen Clark and Sue Holland. Also, a big shout out to the army of bakers and bar-staff who kept us all nourished during the week! Our caterer’s, Scooby Shack provided a delicious choice of food throughout the week. We appreciate the efforts of our UK visitor in making the journey to Jersey, especially given the travel disruption. We look forward to welcoming you back for our next tournament in Easter 2024. BNP Paribas Caesarean Grade 3 Open and Junior Easter Tournament Report 2023
Following a breezy start to tournament week, and some adventurous ferry crossings, this year’s Easter Tournament was blessed with copious sunshine and fantastic tennis. We welcomed 148 entrants (75 from the UK) across 256 entries and 33 draws. Players completed: 275 matches, 547 sets and 3914 games and used 336 balls! The total play lasted 15,884 minutes with the longest match being 3hrs 17 minutes. We are always grateful for our UK players who make the effort to come our little island. The men’s and women’s open finals proved a fitting finale to the tournament with two hard-fought competitive matches played in front of an appreciative audience. Scott Weaver and Sarah Jones prevailed to give the Caesarean Tennis Club a clean sweep for the open singles competitions. The standard of play amongst the junior categories was equally impressive, with many youngsters taking part in multiple draws! The tournament was professionally refereed once again by Donna Budd and assisted by court supervisor Graham Budd who worked tirelessly to ensure the tournament schedule ran efficiently and on time. These events are not possible without the support of volunteers. Thanks to all club members who donated their time and effort to make the event a great success, including Sue Holland, the cake bakers and helping with the bar and club setup. A special mention must go to Karen Clark for her tireless efforts to ensure the club was ready each day, being at the club or on-hand 24/7, welcoming players, parents and officials, liaising with staff and even trying her hand at emergency plumbing! Thanks Karen!! We are extremely grateful for the continued support of BNP Paribas and we’re pleased to have Marnus Marais on hand to present trophies to winners and runners up.
