Storm Update
As most of you will know, we have unfortunately lost the four-court bubble during last week’s storm. In addition, we have sustained serious damage to the court fencing. Thankfully, the two-court bubble is still standing and is operational, so at least there will be some indoor tennis, albeit, limited. The loss of the four-court bubble is extremely disappointing considering that it is brand new, having only been in service since the beginning of September.
The clean-up process now begins along with the administrative tasks associated with insurance claims and repairs. We will be doing our best to ensure that the hard courts become operational as soon as possible, however, because of the sheer scale of island-wide damage, the insurance element is likely to take longer than usual. Going forward, we will continue to keep members updated with any developments.
Storm Clean Up
Karen and Chris Clark will be at the Club 9.30am-11.30am on Saturday for some storm clean up. This will include clearing leaves, rubbish, perimeter fence repair and possibly resanding of clay courts if weather/bookings allow. Members will need to bring gloves. There will be a WhatsApp group formed of a few members who have offered to help where possible, so if anyone would like their name added to this, please email karen@ctc.club.
Morning Court Bookings
One of the steps we are taking to provide more opportunities for indoor court time is to now open the 2 court bubble from 7am every day except Sunday, effective immediately.
AGM Reminder A reminder that the upcoming AGM will be held on Saturday 18th November at 4:30pm, following the club tennis afternoon. The bar will be open to provide drinks and light refreshments. If any members can bring along a cake for the meeting, it would be very appreciated. We also require nominations for the committee. The committee requires the following roles to be filled for 2024:
Chair
Vice-Chair
Treasurer
House and Grounds
Safeguarding officer
Men and Ladies Captains
Junior Liaison Officer
General committee members
We would also like to hear from anyone who doesn't feel they can commit for a full year but would be interested in assisting with a specific task, for example, an event or club improvement project. Please continue to raise any subjects or questions you wish to raise in A.O.B. via club-communications@ctc.club.
Sub-Committees We would like to hear from members who would be interested in forming sub-committees focussed on specific projects aimed at improving the club. These committees would report to the executive committee, particularly with respect to costs, and be supported by the executive committee and club management.
Indoor Tennis Facility : In response to recent challenges with the winter bubble and the ongoing maintenance required in good years; the mission of this sub-committee would be to identify a sustainable solution for providing a permanent indoor facility. The scope of this exercise would cover the design, planning, and financing of a potential facility.
Clubhouse : Our clubhouse is approaching 40years in age and a number of members have expressed their concern about the condition of the facilities within the building; the mission of this sub-committee would be to implement improvements to the clubhouse for the benefit of members and visitors to the club. The sub-committee would be responsible for design, costing and project management of improvement projects.
Please contact the Chairman on david@ctc.club if you would like to be involved.
