Clay Courts, Summer Tournament

Artificial Clay Courts

New artificial clay courts are currently being laid with completion hopefully expected for next Friday, weather dependent! We are hoping to be able to release the courts one by one as they are completed but as work will continue on the other courts, please bear in mind there will be some dust and noise whilst you play.

In preparation for the new clay courts, we would like to ask all members to familiarise themselves with the maintenance required. We have included a picture and a link to a useful video below:

Why should we brush the court after we have played and lose five mins of court time?

First and foremost its shows respect. Respect for the next players who are coming onto the court and who want the same court conditions as you have just enjoyed. Secondly, the more we look after the courts ie sweep the courts in the correct way and clean the lines, the courts will play well for a long time and the overall durability of the courts will be lengthened. Thirdly it's a good cool down!

The only time we might not drag the courts is when it's raining heavily, it's best then to wait until it stops raining before you drag the courts.

Footwear

We would recommend wearing the correct clay court shoe footwear. The difference is on the sole of the shoe and the pattern is a herringbone style, the reason why this helps as it grips and resists the loose top surface and it provides you with more confidence to move freely on the court. We would not recommend wearing running shoes, as these do not give you any lateral support when you move and increase injury and also you could damage the courts, so please make sure you wear the correct footwear to gain the best experience of playing on the artificial clay courts.

BNP Paribas Summer Tournament

Volunteers needed

We shall be opening the bar and kitchen during the summer tournament week and Sue Holland is asking for your help. Sue has already reached out to a number of members either by email or WhatApp groups and if you feel you could help in any way and have not already responded to her, please, please PLEASE contact Sue immediately on suemholland51@gmail.com or 07797 712 133. We do have some part-time staff already lined up to serve hot and cold drinks but help is needed in the kitchen. Food will be simple with no cooking required but it is imperative we have a food offering for our players and all supporters. We may even be firing up the BBQ on a couple of occasions with David as Head Chef!

Senior and Junior Leagues

The final details are being put together for junior and senior club leagues starting mid-July. Further details to follow.

Clubhouse Bar

The coffee machine is now on island and we are awaiting confirmation of the installation date from the supplier. The bar will also be open for Monday night men’s tennis - we encourage all members to use the facility and enjoy a social drink after play.

We Are Tennis

We have now received photos and a brilliant video of the We Are Tennis Finals that were recently held at the club for Year 3 students. Thank you to Jamison from BNP Paribas for being the photographer for the day! Click here to view
