Head of Tennis, Junior Squads, Ladies Social Tennis

Head of Tennis

We wish to advise members that because of long-term sickness, Andrew Evans has sadly tendered his resignation as Head of Tennis at our Club. Andrew has said that this was an extremely difficult decision to make but in the interests of the Club and his own general well-being, he was left with no choice. It is unclear at this time whether he will be able to continue in a coaching role, but for the moment, he is concentrating on getting fit again. On behalf of the Committee and the Club as a whole, we wish him well.

In order to minimise any potential disruption of the Club tennis programme, following a selection process, the Committee have appointed Scott Weaver as Andrew’s successor. Scott will no doubt bring fresh ideas and lots of energy to the role and we hope that he will get plenty of support from our members. Good luck to Scott, he officially starts as Head of Tennis from 1st September 2024.

Ladies Social Tennis

Tuesday evening saw the second Ladies Social Tennis Tournament with a total of 24 ladies taking part. This event now replaces the Ladies Team Tennis which had been played for many years but now, as so many have more commitments and family activities, this new concept appears to be much more acceptable. 24 players was a great achievement considering many members are away on holiday.  It was a perfect evening for tennis too – not too hot and a very gentle breeze.

Once again Bellas provided much-needed refreshments and lots of fun and laughter could be heard from the bar. Thanks to all those taking part, and the result was Lucy Kershaw was the overall winner obtaining 21 games. A tie for runner-up between Gemma Osborne and Niraja Singh took place as both obtained 17 games. Gemma was the eventual runner-up. Well done and thank you to everyone who supported this event. Please note that a third Ladies Social Tournament is planned for Tuesday 24th September.

We wish to thank Quilter Cheviot for their continued support in sponsoring this event.
