Tennis Courts
The club has ten tennis courts: four clay courts and six hard courts, two of which are permanently indoors beneath a synthetic 'bubble'. During the winter months, an additional bubble is installed to cover all four hard courts, giving a total of six indoor courts throughout the colder, wetter season. We also have floodlights across our outdoor courts, allowing play well into the evenings and a dedicated hitting wall for practice. As the only club on the island offering indoor tennis facilities, we provide year‑round play whatever the weather.
Hard Courts 1-2 (The Permanent Bubble)
These courts can be booked for 30/60/90 minutes.
Charged at £8 per half-hour. Half price play available at off peak times during the week and on the weekend. MyCourts will indicate when these times are.
Hard Courts 1-4 (The Hard Courts / Winter Bubble)
These courts can be booked for 30/60/90 minutes for day and evening play. MyCourts will provide the details for opening times on weekdays and weekends.
Free during the Summer season. From approximately September to April, these courts are covered for the Winter season, effectively becoming indoor courts. During this period, they are charged at £4 per half-hour, or £8 per half-hour in the evenings to cover floodlight use. Off-peak rates for these courts are £2 per half-hour.
Lights can be switched on at the bar.
Courts 5-8 (Clay Courts)
These courts can be booked for 30/60/90 minutes free of charge.
When lights are needed, it is £4 per 30 minutes for all outdoor courts, these can be switched on at the bar.
Tennis Bubble Season:
Summer Courts (May-Sept): 2 indoor courts, 4 outdoor hard courts and 4 outdoor clay courts
Winter Courts (Oct-Apr): 6 indoor hard courts and 4 outdoor clay courts
Please note: Winter Bubble inflation/deflation times are approximate and dependant on weather/availability of the team that handles inflation/deflation.
Use of Courts
To help all members enjoy fair and safe use of our facilities, please follow the guidelines below:
-
Gum, smoking and vaping on courts are prohibited.
-
No hot drinks, cans of drinks or glass are permitted on the courts.
-
Ensure that you book a court for the duration of your play, particularly mid/late evening. If you need to continue playing, kindly book the court when immediately required for a longer time.
-
Please don't walk across or behind adjacent courts when entering or exiting your booked court, unless the players on those courts are aware of your presence and have stopped play. This also includes the corridor between the clay and hard courts.
-
Please rehang the hard-court squeegee/court sweepers on the hooks provided at the sides of courts 1 and 4. Leaving them laying against the fence on their squeegee blades damages the blades and makes their ability to clear water from the court surface less effective.
-
Please turn off the permanent (2 court) bubble floodlights immediately after play, located by the revolving access door.
-
Please turn off the outdoor floodlights in the bar area after play unless the slot immediately after your booking is booked by another player. Please select the court number carefully for the lights you are turning off. The outdoor floodlights are metal halide bulbs so when these bulbs are turned off, they need 15 minutes to cool down before they will turn back on, so don’t accidently turn off the neighbouring court lights or your fellow members will be displeased if they are plunged into darkness and have to wait 15 minutes to no longer play on a dark court!
-
Please be aware that our security person will be checking when the last court is booked and will arrive at the club roughly 10 minutes later to lock up. It is not his job to return to ensure the courts and the clubhouse are secure overnight and all lights are turned off.
-
No children under the age of 14 yrs are allowed on the courts unsupervised, particularly in the evening. The club cannot take responsibility for any child should an accident happen and a parent/guardian is not ensuring their child's safety.
-
No riding or wheeling bikes is permitted down the court corridor. Bikes must remain within the clubhouse area, and please do not lean them against the court fencing.
Dress code
-
All players must wear recognised tennis shoes and clothing. No heels or soles with protruding ridges or other designs are allowed on court. Shirts must be always worn.
-
Please ensure only tennis trainers are worn on the hard courts as black soled trainers will leave black marks on the courts. Running shoes are not suitable tennis footwear. You will eventually hurt yourself and many running trainers have soles that mark the courts. Members should also ensure that all dirt is removed from the soles of tennis shoes before playing on any court.
Clay courts
We would like to ask all members to familiarise themselves with the maintenance required. We have included a picture and a link to a useful video below:
Click here: Clay Court Sweeping Video
-
Please drag courts and sweep lines after play. Sweeping helps maintain consistent playing conditions for all members and shows consideration for the next players coming on court. It only takes a couple of minutes but makes a big difference to the quality and longevity of the courts.
-
The only time we might not drag the courts is when it's raining heavily; it's best then to wait until it stops raining before you drag the courts.
-
We would recommend wearing the correct clay court shoe footwear. The difference is on the sole of the shoe and the pattern is a herringbone style, the reason why this helps as it grips and resists the loose top surface and it provides you with more confidence to move freely on the court.
