Hello from the Chair, Easter Tournament and Astro Courts Strip-Out

Hello from the Chair

I am honoured to be elected as Chair of the Caesarean Tennis Club for 2023. We have a challenging year ahead as we strive to recover from the January flood, but I’m optimistic we will build back better and finish the year in a strong position. I hope the membership will support the efforts of the volunteer committee to get the Club back on its feet and bring the joy of tennis back to the Club. I’m aware that, as a relative newcomer to the Club, many of you don’t know much about me so I thought I would use this opportunity to introduce myself and my fellow committee members.

So, a bit about me…

I grew up in country Queensland at a time when tennis was a huge sport and every village, school and many homes had a tennis court. I played at a club level in my youth and socially at university before my racket went into hibernation for many years. Upon my arrival in Jersey in 2018, from London, and free of a long daily commute, I’ve found the time to be able take up the sport again. I’ve been a member of Caesarean since 2020 and served on the Committee since 2021. My inspiration for taking on this role has been the long list of club volunteers and committee members, from whom I have been fortunate to benefit from over many years and across a wide range of sports and associations. Along with improvements to the club facilities, I’m looking forward to working with the coaches and management to create an exciting year of tennis at the Caesarean for all our members; from Juniors to Veterans.

We have an energetic and enthusiastic committee this year, however we are always open to offers of assistance and solutions for improving the club – no matter how big or small!

Thank you

Astro Court Strip-Out

The committee took the decision today to retain a local contractor to get on with removing the Astro court surface and the chain link around courts 5-8 in preparation for the resurfacing. The contractor, BRB Excavation and Groundworks Ltd, plan to begin the work on Thursday 23 March so that they are finished by Friday 31 March, in time for the beginning of the tournament. They should not take up more than two parking spaces near Court 8 during the works and they will try to be as quiet as possible to minimise disruption and distraction to players on the hard courts. BRB may have to work the weekend of 25/26 March to ensure the site is clear before the tournament.

Upcoming EGM

Don’t forget the upcoming EGM on Thursday, 23rd March 2023, 7:00pm at the Caesarean Tennis Club for the new artificial clay courts.
