WAT, Padel Update and Court Bookings

We Are Tennis Finals (WAT)

On the hottest day of the year, the club managed to hold the We Are Tennis finals. All the balcony umbrellas and two gazebos were placed strategically on the courts to give as much shade as possible to players and helpers. WAT is a programme available to all the Year 3 students in the States-owned primary schools. Either Adam or Scott visit schools that have accepted this offer, on a weekly basis during the summer term to teach the basics of tennis. The Club then hosts a Final's day for all the children to attend. Have a look at the photos on our Club Facebook page.

Our thanks to our sponsors BNP Paribas who, not only financially assist with this programme, but also provided a number of their staff to give us a helping hand on the Final's day. HUGE thanks to Adam and Scott for organising the programme and to all the coaches and parents who supported the day. Thanks to one or two member volunteers who provided free tea/coffee and homemade cakes and to the usual two committee members who were on hand to help set the day up and clear it all away at the end.

The Bar

The weather was dismal last Sunday and very few members came to the club. Unfortunately, the person who was to become our Sunday Breakfast chef has decided not to take up the position so we are back to the drawing board again. The bar continues to be our constant headache. We are trying our best to keep it open but it is an ongoing battle. We advertise on social media for staff - either part or full time - but, as we all know, hospitality is in dire straits due to staff shortage in the island. We are not alone in our struggle for staff and a number of eateries have closed. We are open, albeit not always at the hours we would like.

FYI - these are the hours we intend to be open:

Mon-Fri 10am to 1.30pm

Sat - 8.30am to 1.30pm

Sun - 10am to 1.30pm

The bar is open during the evening and is operated by Compadres. We currently offer free nibbles on Monday/Tuesday and Wednesday whilst the men and ladies tennis evenings are in full swing and also Wednesday evening after club social tennis. Occasionally we do close earlier during the morning if there is a staffing issue.

Court Bookings

A gentle reminder to members to cancel their court booking if it is not needed. We have had a few grumbles from members who have noticed courts have been booked but players are not turning up and have not cancelled the booking, particularly on the busy weekend mornings. Some members who would like to play but have not been able to book come to the Club on the off chance should a court become available. Please be considerate of your fellow members. This problem becomes worse during the summer months when there are no charges to use outdoor courts. Please treat a court booking as if you have paid for it…if you book it, use it or at the very least cancel it to give someone else a chance to rebook.

Padel Project Update

Since receiving the approval from the Planning Department and the appeal period passed, we are proceeding to draft the business and administration document in readiness to invite our members to an EGM to take place in the next month or so. We should be reminded that this is not just for Padel Tennis courts but the rejuvenation of the club as a whole which will include, and maybe not limited to, a new hitting wall, paving the gravel area and cleaning up the area beside the clubhouse by removing some of the trees and the old sheds.

Junior Summer Camps

Our Junior Summer Camps will be running from the 18th July – 12th August. They will be from 9-12pm and cost £35 a day for members. You can book for as little or as many days as you would like but days are filling up fast so please book soon if you would like a space. Click here to sign up and for more info.

Lost Property

Please be advised that there is a box in the corridor beside the used ball box, of various articles of clothing and water bottles which have been left lying around in various areas of the club and outside. If you have lost anything please take a look in the box. All remaining items shall be donated to a charity next week.
